Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly meme, hosted by Breaking The Spine, that showcases upcoming releases that we are eager to read.

When I saw this book a few weeks ago, I almost wet myself. Seriously, like I need a diaper because I am freaking out. A reimagining of Shakespeare’s Hamlet!!!This book promises good things, and I need it like air. And how can you not love that freaking cover?!!! Without further ado………..

22838927Title: The Steep and Thorny Way

Author: Cat Winters

Publisher: Amulet Books

Release Date: March 8th 2016

A thrilling reimagining of Shakespeare’s Hamlet, The Steep and Thorny Way tells the story of a murder most foul and the mighty power of love and acceptance in a state gone terribly rotten.

1920s Oregon is not a welcoming place for Hanalee Denney, the daughter of a white woman and an African-American man. She has almost no rights by law, and the Ku Klux Klan breeds fear and hatred in even Hanalee’s oldest friendships. Plus, her father, Hank Denney, died a year ago, hit by a drunk-driving teenager. Now her father’s killer is out of jail and back in town, and he claims that Hanalee’s father wasn’t killed by the accident at all but, instead, was poisoned by the doctor who looked after him—who happens to be Hanalee’s new stepfather.

The only way for Hanalee to get the answers she needs is to ask Hank himself, a “haint” wandering the roads at night.

Heavy, yeah? This sounds all kinds of mysterious and a bit emotional as well. I just can’t stop thinking about it. Then there’s her father’s spirit lingering around. Yeah, I need this. Would you read this book? Come on, this is Cat Winters here! She has a way with historical fiction and I just know that this will be worth the read.

What book are you waiting on this week?

  1. That’s a beautiful cover. Seems like loads of good stuff is due in March 2016! I’ve never read Cat Winters but I’d like to try, I have one of her books on my shelf staring right at me, The Uninvited, waiting to be read.

  2. I actually hadn’t heard of this book until now! For some reason the cover makes me slightly dizzy but that might be the blur of it and the fact that I get motion sick really easily. xD

BUT putting that aside this sounds so cool. I mean, a retelling of Hamlet? Definitely unique, and with some hints to other promises being in there as well. I also really like the author, so a plus there too.

I love comments, and try to reply as often as I can. Know that I read each and every one.
