Stacking The Shelves #63 Happy Halloween!

STSmall_thumb2

Stacking The Shelves is a weekly meme, hosted by Tynga’s Reviews, that spotlights the books we are adding to our shelves; whether they be virtual or physical.

I’m back this week with a few physical books that I’ve won over that last two weeks. Some of these arrived on my birthday Tuesday. How cool is that? Aside from a few library and review books, this is all from me this time. I’m taking my niece and nephew trick-or-treating tonight. I just hope the little power ranger and pixie have a great time. I may steal a lot of their loot though. Only the chocolate!

Netgalley / Requests

cover76452-mediumcover76001-medium27152907  Whispers of Shadow & Flame is a sequel that I’ve been waiting on, and I couldn’t turn down the author’s request. I’m currently reading it, so I should be done with it soon.

Kindle Purchases & Gifts

2349228227281023  I had to grab Nowhere But Here while it’s .99 cents. The Standout is a book I voted for on Kindle Scout, so I was gifted a copy to review.

That’s all for me this week. What books did you add to your shelves? Happy Halloween and be safe!

In the spirit of Halloween, I’d like to say a few things. Not everyone is racist or have hate in their hearts. A woman who lives in my town has this as a part of her decorations.

Now, this being the South, some of my fellow brothers and sisters decided that it needed to be taken down. I swear that I wanted to give out copies of books that fictionalize the accounts. Trust me, our library has many books depicting that horrid year in Massachusetts. Now, if they were to Google the Salem Witch Trials, then they’d get this image.

Please, stop taking offense to EVERYTHING! My God, the family that lives there are both black and white! There’s a biracial child in the household. People have been so disrespectful to that family and they have since taken it down and put a baby doll in it’s place. It made me so sad, and a little mad, that someone would misinterpret what they were trying to show. It’s Halloween, and all they wanted was to add this to their yard for the holiday. I really feel like slapping someone right now, and I’m not a violent person. If they are giving out candy, then I’ll be taking the kids by there and I will tell them that I saw their decoration for what it truly was. I read fantasy and paranormal, so it wasn’t lost to me. They need to know that not everyone thinks one way. It just goes to show that people really need to read more, or better yet, stop thinking everyone is racist or full of hate! So, if you are one of the people who misinterpreted that Halloween display, then I’ll be praying for you. It’s truly sad that the family had to take it down. I even heard that the woman was crying. Yeah, that pissed me off something fierce.

  1. I think the problem is that most people see what they want to see and sadly most of them believe that the world and people around them are there to make them suffer 😦 It was a really cool decoration, I live in Europe and it is a little bit different here, but it might have also not worked out well 😦 Well, at least you got a chance to take a picture of it before it was taken down! 😉

  3. Happy Halloween for yesterday! You’ve got a lot of great books in your haul this week! 🙂 I received A Madness so Discreet today in my Owl Crate and I can’t wait to read it, it looks so good and I love the cover. I really hope you enjoy all of your books.

I feel bad for that couple, it seems quite clear to me that this was just a harmless Halloween decoration. I feel sorry for them that they got so much hate for it.

  4. I know what you mean about not needing to take offense at everything! I know what they were aiming to go for, but that did look a bit… dodgy. I guess just to be careful with the kind of decorations you use because they can be misinterpreted?

As for the books, you have some lovely wins there! I really enjoyed A Madness So Discreet myself and I really want to read This Monstrous Thing.I’m also curious to know what you’ll think of An Ember in the Ashes.
