Born with a deadly magic she cannot control, Kyara is forced to become an assassin. Known as the Poison Flame, she is notorious and lethal, but secretly seeks freedom from both her untamed power and the blood spell that commands her. She is tasked with capturing the notorious rebel known as the Shadowfox, but everything changes when she learns her target’s true identity.
Darvyn ol-Tahlyro may be the most powerful Earthsinger in generations, but guilt over those he couldn’t save tortures him daily. He isn’t sure he can trust the mysterious young woman who claims to need his help, but when he discovers Kyara can unlock the secrets of his past, he can’t stay away.
As forbidden desire ignites their hearts, Kyara and Darvyn grapple with betrayal, old promises, and older prophecies — all while trying to stop a war. And when a new threat emerges, the cost of their love might just be too high.
REVIEW
It was so great getting to know another side of this powerful story! Unlike the first book, this one has a lot more magic dealing. I loved learning about Nethersong, as compared to Earthsong. If I had to choose, I’d want both. Kyara is a very powerful Nethersinger. Darvyn is an even more powerful Earthsinger. Can you imagine the babies they’d make?! I love how their relationship budded; much like Jack and Jasminda from the first book. Again, there are enemies everywhere, so you don’t know who to trust or what their motives are.
Kyara is an assassin to the True Father. This story takes place at the same time as Song of Blood & Stone. A whole new set of characters to play with here, so there’s a lot to learn about them. After Kyara has completed her latest task, she is then assigned another – infiltrate the Keepers and bring in the person known as Shadowfox. The problem? Kyara didn’t expect to fall in love and question everything that she’s done up to that point. Darvyn is powerful in his own right. He’s also very loyal and dedicated to his people. Coming across Kyara wasn’t foreseen, no matter how strong his Song is. I love their relationship from start to end. No spoilers, but we have not gotten to the end of their story and I’m dying to know how it will end for these two.
Ydaris is a complicated character altogether. I hate that she turned Kyara into an assassin. She used Kyara’s own power against her, so she is even more power hungry and cruel as the True Father. Now, everything is about to get crazy because Darvyn will not stop until he finds Kyara; be damned of The Queen’s demand. The epilogue brings more questions, but I want to know the story behind the two boys and the man locked in the cell next to Kyara’s. Well, if you’ve read book one, then you can pretty much guess who they are! I so need the next book right now! Just what in God’s name is going on here?
Great world building and character development here. I want to know more about the Physicks. If you’ve read book one, there’s no way you cannot read this book. I was hesitant because I wanted more Jack & Jasminda, but you will love Darvyn and Kyara a lot. There’s more at stake here than I thought going in, and I can’t wait to see what Ydaris has up her sleeve. Highly recommend this series!

What a powerful cover. I love books with assassins in them.

Kyara is the kind of assassin who doesn’t need to lay a finger on you to kill. Her magic is very powerful. Even her boss is afraid to let her get close, even though the bloodspell won’t allow her to harm him.

I am so glad to know you loved this! It seems like one set in the same world but just with a different main characters which is something that does happen every now and again and can be pretty cool. Especially when you see how this timeline relates to the other book as well! Seeing as they are happening at the same time. I love the covers ^^

I think that every book will have someone different, but the stories will all connect. I love the different magic that they have.
