Being connected to Daemon Black sucks…

Thanks to his alien mojo, Daemon’s determined to prove what he feels for me is more than a product of our bizarro connection. So I’ve sworn him off, even though he’s running more hot than cold these days. But we’ve got bigger problems.

Something worse than the Arum has come to town…

The Department of Defense are here. If they ever find out what Daemon can do and that we’re linked, I’m a goner. So is he. And there’s this new boy in school who’s got a secret of his own. He knows what’s happened to me and he can help, but to do so, I have to lie to Daemon and stay away from him. Like that’s possible. Against all common sense, I’m falling for Daemon. Hard.

But then everything changes…

I’ve seen someone who shouldn’t be alive. And I have to tell Daemon, even though I know he’s never going to stop searching until he gets the truth. What happened to his brother? Who betrayed him? And what does the DOD want from them—from me?

No one is who they seem. And not everyone will survive the lies…

REVIEW

*There may be spoilers, though not intentional. I’m just gonna type what pops in my head and hope for the best*

This is not my favorite book, so far, in this series. Granted, I’ve only read 2, but still…..I mostly disliked how very predictable this plot was from the moment a new character entered the picture. And let’s not overlook how irresponsible Katy was from the moment she started feeling all weird. Firstly, she should have brought it to Daemon’s attention immediately. Or Dee. Or Adam. Hell, even Matthew would have been okay. Secondly, why she chose to condemn Daemon because she “thinks he doesn’t really want her”, is beyond me. Dude said he’s sorry, get over yourself girl. What does Kitten do? She decides to play both sides, and gets hurt in the end. Stubborn, is what Katy is this whole book.

The things I liked are pretty minimal, but I loved the last quarter of the book. Lots of action and bad guys running around. The DOD is heavy in this one, which I loved. I just knew that there was more to this story than some aliens inhabiting a small town in West Virginia, and a human girl finding out about them. Lots of questions answered here that I had from the first book; mostly more history on Daemon and the other Luxen. There is one thing that I didn’t see coming, and it was a huge surprise. I can’t wait to read the next book. Let’s face it, I’m hooked. Yeah, this one didn’t quite live up to the hype for me, but the ending made up for it.

Daemon is not a bad guy. Okay, so maybe he’s a little cocky and snide, but he truly does want Katy. She spent so much time trying to convince herself that it was their “connection” that makes him feel that way, when she should have been heeding his warnings about Blake. His character made sense in the end, but I just hate the tension that was caused by him entering the picture. I got so many Twilight feels from this, it’s not even funny. Seriously, it’s not. So why am I continuing this after 2 books with Twi-mojo? Daemon Freaking Black! I love his honesty, even when it so obviously hurts. But….I’m kinda mad at him right now, for letting Katy walk all over him and question his character. If that girl didn’t love books so much, I’d have given up on her with book one. That’s another thing about this series that grabs a reader’s attention, she talks about books and blogging a lot. See, she’s not totally dumb, just makes stupid decisions from time to time. If you are looking for a quick series to read, this is it. Don’t mind Katy’s impulsiveness and ramblings (except when she’s in book mode), focus on Daemon. He’s who I’m 100% behind. Recommended!

  1. I so wish I could’ve joined you guys because I’ve been wanting to read Lux for the longest time. I purchased the bind up for my birthday back in august, and I just knew I was going to be able to get to it soon, BUT you know how that goes lol. I’m really excited to start it though. I haven’t had the greatest experience with Jennifer, (I’ll stay away from her new adult titles until further notice) but since everyone seems to really like this series, and since it’s always being compared to twilight, I’m def getting to it soon. Because HELLO I love me some twilight!

  2. Oh no, I’m not sure how I feel about this one now! I liked the first one well enough, but the few Twilight feels I got from that one prickled at me, and I found the aliens a bit strange. I have been waiting to get my hands on book 2 but they aren’t selling in my country so I will have to get it off the internet at some point. But knowing that the Twilight feels are major in this one? It is going to bother me so much… and the predictably as well… at least it does still sound like a decent read nonetheless.

    • I am all for authors getting inspiration from other authors. But, when it feels like too many similarities, that’s something that irks me. And for a twihard like me, I spotted it right away. I mean, come on, Dee is a tall Alice Cullen. And some phrases stood out as well. Still, I can’t turn back now. I am in love with Daemon! LOL!

  3. Yes, it’s been a while since I read this one, but I remember thinking very similar thoughts. Fortunately, Katy gets some reality checks that slap her into some sense.
Oh man, I remember the craving I got with finishing each of these middle books b/c of the way they ended on the big reveals.
    Daemon gets even better. 🙂

  4. Haha! When I first saw your review for this in my mailbox, I was like uh oh, I REALLY, REALLY hope she likes it so I’m glad you did! I thought the fact that Katy was so stubborn actually made things more interesting because Daemon (oh, Daemon) has to win her affections all over again and the fact that she was pushing him away was just….I don’t know, I LURVED it, okay?? I’m so behind on this series still girl and haven’t had the chance to read so I hope I’m able to catch up with you guys soon! ❤

  5. Oh no! I’ve been putting this one off, well, the whole series really even though I read the first book but now you have me both curious to pick it up and fearful to at the same time LOL! Silly Katy. Will I want to slap her silly in this?
