Series Review: Magic Bites ||Magic Burns & Magic Strikes

Atlanta would be a nice place to live, if it weren’t for the magic. When the magic is up, rogue mages cast their spells and monsters appear, while guns refuse to fire and cars fail to start. But then technology returns, and the magic recedes as unpredictably as it arose.

Kate Daniels works for the Order of Knights of Merciful Aid, officially as a liaison with the mercenary guild. Unofficially, she cleans up the paranormal problems no one else wants to handle – especially if they involve Atlanta’s shapeshifting community. When she’s called in to investigate a fight at the Steel Horse, a bar on the border between the territories of the shapeshifters and the necromancers, Kate quickly discovers that there’s a new player in town. One who’s been around for thousands of years – and who rode to war at the side of Kate’s father. This foe may be too much even for Kate and Curran, the Beast Lord, to handle. Because this time Kate will be taking on family.

REVIEW

Love this series so much! While this isn’t my favorite book of the series, it still is a great addition. I’m not fond of politics, no matter the kind. This one is filled to the brim with Pack laws and such, and it kind of dragged for me. On the other hand, it served as a purpose to Kate’s role as Curran’s mate. I love that it’s official and they are in love and happy. Something tells me that it’s too good and some salt is about to be thrown. No matter, I’ll stick to it until the end.

OAN: all that challenging BS at the end made me mad. I didn’t like the wolves much to begin with, but they proved to be even bigger pains than I thought. I was go glad that everything worked out at the end. Characters were all over the place in this installment.  Aunt Erra….there are no words for her madness. Ted is a prejudice a-hole. Saiman….I can’t deal with him. He gets stranger with each book. He must have a death wish to be trying to piss the Lion King off. Andrea needs to stop being ashamed of what she is. She doesn’t deserve Raphael, and I can’t wait to see how they will move forward. Lots of action, magic, and death- my type of read. I highly recommend this series!

REVIEW

It’s so great to get inside the Beast Lord’s head. I wondered about him, especially with the first 3 books. Sure, Kate deserves to narrate her stories, but there’s something about gouging Curran’s reactions to certain events, or what he was doing when he wasn’t pissing off Kate.

I love all of these little scenes, but my favorite is the one at Bernard’s and Curran’s reaction to Saiman. We got Kate’s side of it, but Curran’s is better because we actually feel the restraint he used to stop from killing the horny mystical man. It was too funny. Other scenes stood out as well – why Curran didn’t make it to the dinner date with Kate. That was crazy, the way it all went down. See, these pack rules would drive me crazy. Too many challenges being thrown around. Who in their right mind would want to fight Curran? He’s the Beast Lord for a reason. *sighs* I love him dearly. Those Lion King references were hilarious. Only, I see Curran as Mufasa and not Scar, whom he quoted. Still, it was funny and I love being inside his head.

If you love this series, there is no way to pass up this collection of His Majesty’s thoughts. Highly recommend grabbing this from the authors’ website.

  1. Sorry this on wasn’t as great for you but it’s heard not to love a Andrews’ book. This was my second fav of the series, but I loved the Pack laws and challenging.

  2. You must be loving this series, if you’re devouring one book after another! And this is the first time I’ve even heard of the Curran’s POV collection, omg that’s amazing! And super cool to give to their fans of Kate Daniels 🙂

  4. I’m thrilled you’re enjoying the series! I agree, Saiman is one creepy guy. Getting Curran’s POV was such a treat and I think I remember cracking up at Gordon’s introduction to the book. Something about how men are simple creatures. The books just get better, IMO. You need to read Magic Stars when you’ve got through all the other books. It’s a Derek and Julie novella. Great review, Lekeisha! 🙂

    • I can’t wait to read it because I love Derek and Julie, though nothing has happened yet with them really. I love them because of their relationships with Kate and Curran.

  5. Even though the first one had something you aren’t food of – politics – it seems like it was necessary and didn’t interfere too much with your entertainment of the book! As well as that, I am so glad you could like the collection where you got to see a bit more into his head! Sounds like this series doesn’t disappoint in the slightest at all 😀
