Top Reads of 2015

After lots of pondering, I’ve narrowed it down to 25 books. There were lots of books that I really enjoyed but only 25 made the cut; with 2 of them being 2016 releases.

Best books read that release in 2016

The best whodunit that I have read in a long time. This book has so many twists and turns!

The best historical time travel ever. It may be the best alternate history book that I’ve ever read. I know that this will be one of my rereads because I love the main characters.

Best YA Contemporary/Realistic Fiction

Made You Up is my top pick, and I can’t explain how much I love this book

Maddie and Oliver are the cutest couple ever! I’d happily read a continuation of their love story.

This one hit a little too close to home for me and I admire Matt and Lovey for being so strong.

One of the most unreliable narrators ever! Mim is one of those hard to forget characters.

Best Fantasy and Science Fiction

This book is everything. I remember being almost in a reading slump when I started it, and it kept me hooked. Can’t wait for the next book!

Dark and action packed, is what this one is. It’s better than the first book, in my opinion.

I love retellings, and I was surprised that this one hooked me from the very first page. If you love anything relating to the Goose Girl fairy tale, you may want to give this book a shot.

So glad to have started this series! Best UF I’ve read yet. I love me some Kate and Curran.

Regency London & magic? Hell, yes! I loved this book and I can’t wait to read the next one, which sadly won’t be here until 2017.

One of my favorites, considering that there could be a love triangle in the works. Still, I’m ready for Glass Sword.

God, the cover. I can’t stare at it too long, because it makes my flesh crawl. Aside from that, this book is awesome. I still need to read the others, which I plan to do in 2016. I’m late, but at least all the books are out.

To say I was surprised by how much I loved this one, is an understatement. I love that cover, but I love the world that L. Penelope created here. The characters are well done and the sequel is even more mind blowing. Can’t wait to read book 3.

I devoured this and books 2 & 3 within days of each other. I’ve not read QoS yet, but I plan to do that soon.

I really love the humor in this book, and if that hadn’t been there, I don’t think me and this book would have gotten along. The movie is just as awesome!

My favorite series end, and I think Susan did a great job on the whole romance as well as the action. With a plot like this, you can’t go overboard, even if it is fiction.

I wish this book was more well known, because it’s a great retelling of the Goose Girl. One of my favorite Indie authors gave me this last year and she said it was one of her favorite books. By the time I was done, I said the same thing. If you love retellings of any kind, check out this book!

Best Adult/NA Romance and Erotic Romance

I did a lot of swooning and ugly crying with this one. I still think about these characters, especially Moses.

Companion to The Law of Moses, and I fell more in love with Tag. It also broke my heart. Amy Harmon wrote these books so beautifully and I can’t wait to read the rest of her books.

I finally caved and started this series, and it’s one of the best decisions ever. I fell in love with Gideon and Eva hard. The other books made me a little mad because there seemed to never be any resolutions to the problems, but I’m hoping that Sylvia closes this series out with a bang next year.

EJD is one of my favorite authors, and I pretty much love all his books, but this one took me by surprise. It all revolves around one night, and it’s one heck of a story. I love that the ending was left open and I wouldn’t be surprised if EJD brings our OC Guy and LA Girl back in the future. This one made me want some LSD. No, not the drug people!

Best Middle Grade and Literary Fiction

Love this collection! The historical aspect is what did it for me, and Anthony Marra has become one of my favorite literary fiction authors.

I love this whole series, and I think that book 2 is my absolute favorite, but this last installment is full of Southern history. Plus, it’s about my home state. One of the best MG series I’ve read over the years. These 3 sisters are hilarious!

This was really hard because there are at least 15 more that would have made it, but I had to narrow it down. It’s safe to say that sci-fi and fantasy were my favorite genres this year.

16 novellas, 6 DNF’s, 4 audio books, 175 full novels

My reading and blogging goals for 2016 are to read more of my personal books and less ARCs. I’ve got a few for the first 4 months of the year, and I only plan to request one or two every other month, or if I decide to participate in a blog tour. I have books on my shelves and stacked neatly on the floor that I have been neglecting for years, and I won’t even say how many are on my Kindle. I’m also gonna keep up with posting Monday-Saturday, leaving Sundays free. And I am gonna try to get in more audio books. I have 2 audio cd sets that I need to listen to because they have been sitting on my shelf for over a year, but I will be borrowing a lot from my library. This has been a stressful year for me personally, and I just have to take a step back and take care of ME. It’s just that simple. Unless something comes up, I won’t be taking a break until this time next year. So, here’s to a great 2016!
