Series: Georgina Kincaid #1
Genres: Adult-Fiction, Urban-Fantasy, Paranormal, Supernatural
Format: ebook
Source: Purchased
My Rating: 3.5 stars
When it comes to jobs in hell, being a succubus seems pretty glamorous. A girl can be anything she wants, the wardrobe is killer, and mortal men will do anything just for a touch. Granted, they often pay with their souls, but why get technical?
But Seattle succubus Georgina Kincaid’s life is far less exotic. At least there’s her day job at a local bookstore–free books;all the white chocolate mochas she can drink;and easy access to bestselling, sexy writer, Seth Mortensen, aka He Whom She Would Give Anything to Touch but Can’t.
But dreaming about Seth will have to wait. Something wicked is at work in Seattle’s demon underground. And for once, all of her hot charms and drop-dead one-liners won’t help because Georgina’s about to discover there are some creatures out there that both heaven and hell want to deny. . .
I admit, I’ve been hesitant to read anything from this author since my run-in with Vampire Academy. VA wasn’t really that bad, I just couldn’t get into it. I’m told the books get better, so I may try the next one. I’ve been reading great reviews for this Georgina Kincaid series, so I thought I’d give the first book a shot. I liked it enough that I will be reading the next book soon. However, there were little details that irked me, but for the most part, this looks to be a pretty good series.
First off, I was never truly surprised by the mystery surrounding this plot. When we first encounter a certain character, alarm bells go off. It was too precise; the way the character got introduced in this story. So, when it all sort of spilled out at the end, I wasn’t awed. Secondly, the romance wasn’t what I wanted to happen. I don’t really like love triangles, I just put up with them from time to time. Especially if the other aspects of the story are awesome.
I was never a fan of Roman. The way he pushed his way into Georgina’s life felt too controlling. He was just so….. pompous most of the time. I don’t care how suave he was on those dates. Just no. I am, however, TEAM SETH. Maybe it’s his author status, but he’s my type of guy. He’s so unbelievably timid, and it was sexy as hell to me. There were not enough moments of them together, so I’m looking forward to the next book. Hopefully, things will work out.
I love Georgina’s character. I guess her job description, as well as her succubus nature, makes her a little flippant. It totally worked for me, and I’m just glad to not have a clueless heroine to deal with. All-in-all, I am definitely gonna read the next book and just go from there. If you are a fan of urban fantasy, I recommend this one!
I’m on cloud nine right now, and it couldn’t have happened at a better time, after receiving some heartbreaking news Sunday. But…my team won the National Championship last night!! We were up screaming our butts off at the tv, but I am so happy. Won a few hundred bucks from hitting 2 quarters too. I’m so proud of the Crimson Tide right now and Coach Saban. 4 ships in the 7 years he’s been head coach. 16 ships overall for us. I hate to brag, but we have the best football program in the SEC, and for this year, the country! So stoked! Our team is so awesome, even fictional Forest Gump played on it.
It sucks when the mystery doesn’t surprise you. There is a fine like between keeping things mysterious compared revealing too much, or not enough.

Yeah, total let down on the mystery front.

I remember loving this series, but I had a few problems with it too. I am curious what you will think of the later installments and will definitely keep a look out for your reviews. I still have the last one to finish, maybe I’ll pick that one up soon! Great review as always!

YASSS! I love the sound of that “timid” guy! Even though I never pass up a book if it has a “bad boy” in it (those types of guys are my fav!) I too think the timid ones are SEXY! So I totally agree there! I was never a fan of VA?? I just couldn’t get into it girl so YEAH, maybe one day I’ll pick it up! I still want to try out at least SOMETHING by this author, you know?

You will love Seth! He’s a writer, so you and him may fall in love. LOL

I read this series a long time ago, before VA. I enjoyed the series overall but, like you, I figured out some of the mystery elements way too early. I loved Seth, though, and I also really enjoyed the angel (can’t remember his name right now).
I hope you’ll enjoy the rest of the series, Lekeisha 🙂 Great review.

Thanks Lexxie! I’m just gonna take it one book at a time, but I really hope it gets better so I can keep going.

I read my first Richelle Mead book last year, a YA title called Soundless and it was kind of mediocre. It hasn’t really put me off from trying her again, so I’m kinda in the same boat you were, curious and hopeful that I might like something else by her. But this time I’ll probably give one of her adult series a shot.

I really want to read Soundless!

Hmm I’m conflicted on Urban Fantasy! They make for a quick and fun read, but never anything more than that. Nice review, though. 🙂 Seth sounds like a total cutie-pie. Mead’s VA wasn’t my style either – again, diverting but fleeting.

Have you tried the Kate Daniels series? Now, that is one UF series that gets better and better. I’m in love with all the books I’ve read so far.

This one sounds pretty interesting. I’m not a huge fan of love triangles either, but I like the sound of Seth. I might have to check this one out if it’s available at my library.

Super for you that your team got your heart beating fast and delivered for you.
I have this series on my wish list. I haven’t read any of the author’s books. Glad to get your thought out balanced review. I’ll keep my expectation more moderate than it has been. Maybe book two gets better.

Everyone seems to love her books, but I had been avoiding her for years. I had seen this series on a few blogs, and they were raving about it, so I gave it a go. Definitely gonna read the next book and go from there.

Thanks for the review! I quite like RIchelle Mead, although this doesn’t seem like my type of book. So maybeee I’ll give it a go anyway? 😮

This is better than the first VA book. Then again, it’s a different age range here.

I am glad you liked it enough to want to read the next book in the series, especially after not really loving Vampire Academy as well. I hope those little things which made the book a bit too obvious will steadily iron out so the novel becomes smooth and likeable.

I hate that it was so obvious what was going down, but I love the character development a lot. Plus, Georgina didn’t annoy me, so that was a sign to keep going.

I can tell you from my experience with Mead, her series always start out slow and then they grow and grow. I thought with both Bloodlines and VA that they took off at the third book, so be patient. I have long wanted to try this series, and I am hoping to do it on audio this year. Glad you had a great win. I watched the game, but wasn’t invested as I am a PAC 12 fan 🙂

I might try the next book in the VA series one day. Yeah, that was a great game and Clemson came to win, but so did we. I was hoping that one of the PAC 12 teams made it, because I love when any team in the SEC plays a West Coast team. Well, except Auburn. I want everyone to beat them! LOL

I haven’t started this series yet, but I do have some of the books in it. My experience with urban fantasy and paranormal romance is that I usually don’t love the first book (usually about 3.5 stars) but as I continue I start to love the series. I hope that’s the case here!

I liked this book, but I didn’t love it. So I never read any more in the series. Now it’s been a little bit and I really want to know what happens lol. I’m hoping to read more in it eventually. I can’t wait to see your reviews if you decide to continue.

I read the first Vampire Academy book and I found it very lackluster. Ehh I don’t know if I want to bother with anything else of hers!

Nereyda LOVES this series so much! I remember reading the first couple of books and really enjoying them. I’m not too sure why I never went back to the rest of the books, but she’s been hounding me to ever since she found out. 🙂
I’m glad that for the most part this was a good book for you. I understand your issues with the mystery part. That always happens to me too. It becomes so obvious! The series definitely moves away from love triangle status in the next few books. I’m definitely Team Seth too! I hope you’ll love the rest of the books just as much.
Wonderful review, Lekeisha!

Yay! Your team won! This is a book that has been on my TBR pile forever. I do want to give it a shot at some point. I don’t like the fact that you mention a love triangle. Why do so many books throw in a triangle? It is annoying. Great review!
