From New York Times bestselling author Ilona Andrews comes a tale of darkness, desire, and werecats.
Alpha Pack leader Jim Shrapshire has always been the strong, silent type. But something has come over him–a magic force currently residing in one of the Pack’s headquarters. Were-tigress Dali Harimau has always wished she could get Jim’s attention–but now he needs her help.
Stricken with a magic-sickness, Jim needs Dali’s flair for magic. And to save him, she must challenge a powerful, dark being to a battle of wits.
Includes an excerpt of Ilona Andrews’s upcoming novel in the world of Kate Daniels, *Gunmetal Magic. Magic Dreams originally appeared in the anthology Hexed*.
How can such a short story give you so many feels?! I am just amazed at how this duo of authors manage to make you fall deeper in love with these characters with each book. I love me some Kate and Curran, but it was nice to get to know Jim and Dali more. They are so stubborn! No, I take that back. Jim is the stubborn one; Dali is just a little self conscious. But once there’s a threat to Jims’s life, she will stop at nothing to save him. I loved meeting her mom, and how her other family members all fawned over Jim. So much love between these two in such a few pages. Dali is smart and innovative, which showed even more in this story. No demonic spider-chick will take her man from her. That ending was perfect and I swooned to death. If you are a fan of this series and haven’t read this, I highly recommend it.

I don’t think I’ll ever get enough of Kate and Curran. This novella is companion to Gunmetal Magic, and can be read before or after. The Beast Lord & Lady go out to dinner, and all hell breaks loose. To save a child’s life, they will have to seek answers in very dangerous places. Of course, Ghastek has to stick his hands in. Well, his vamps did cause part of the chaos, but a deadly necklace does the most damage. I just love it when Curran defends the kids. He may be a badass beast, but he has a heart of gold. I just love him! This was fun and action packed.

I loved getting to know more of Andrea’s history. I didn’t think she’d face someone from her past in this, so that was a shocker. She did the right thing, even though I totally wanted her to do the opposite. Dead shapeshifters and Andrea is on the case. The problem? She and Raphael haven’t worked things out, neither is she and Aunt B on good terms. Raphael tests her constantly, until she has no choice but to acknowledge her feelings. I shuddered and skimmed the action parts in this. Snake people. Um, no thank you! I don’t do snakes and my flesh crawled the whole time that I was reading, which took away some of my enjoyment. It’s not the book, it’s me. Still, I love how this all played out and the ending was perfect.
