Celia Wird and her three sisters are just like other twenty-something girls—with one tiny exception: They’re the products of a curse that backfired and gave each of them unique powers that make them, well, a little weird…

The Wird sisters are content to avoid the local vampires, werebeasts, and witches of the Lake Tahoe region—until one of them blows up a vampire in self-defense. Everyone knows vampires aren’t aggressive, and killing one is punishable by death. But soon more bloodlust-fueled attacks occur, and the community wonders if the vampires of Tahoe are plague-ridden.

Celia reluctantly agrees to help Misha, the handsome leader of an infected vampire family. But Aric, the head of the werewolf pack determined to destroy Misha’s family to keep the area safe, warns Celia to stay out of the fight. Caught between two hot alphas, Celia must find a way to please everyone, save everyone, and—oh, yeah—not lose her heart to the wrong guy or die a miserable death. Because now that the evil behind the plague knows who Celia is, he’s coming for her and her sisters.

This Wird girl has never had it so tough.

Review

3-5-stars

I’ve been reading a lot of UF and PNR lately, so this came as no surprise that I would enjoy it. While I’m not entirely in love with this first book, I’m going to push ahead with the next book to see if I can be wowed. Sealed With A Curse is a good start to another series, filled with beings with paranormal and supernatural qualities.

Meet the Wird sisters….

Okay, so their descriptions don’t match these chicks, but I can’t help but think of Taran with the bat across her shoulders. That girl’s got no shame. She’s loud and foul and doesn’t give a rats butt who hears her. Of course, that would be Celia with the flame. She’s the in control one, and the mama bear. These sisters are tight. I love their closeness, which is what I look for when there are sisters thrown in the mix. While I like all 4 girls enough, Celia is the main focus of this story. Trying not to stand out in a such a powerful world of all things paranormal, is hard to achieve. Especially, when the antagonist notices you. I like how the author set up this plot, and I can’t wait to see how complex it gets as the books go on.

In every PNR or UF series, there’s always a hot Alpha of some pack running around. And of course, that pack is at war with their sworn enemies – vampires. I so did not need a new book boyfriend, but Aric slipped his hotness right on in. Misha – the hot vampire – isn’t bad to swoon over either. And this is where I felt the story going in another direction.

Celia and Aric were insta-lusting the moment they met. I’m all for some romance for Celia, but it happened too fast, with little in between. Part of that is because Celia is a little self conscious when it comes to why she’s single. I do not like heroines who think they’re ugly, when the author clearly describes their beauty. I’ve never understood why an author would give the reader this “perfect” visual of the heroine, only to have the heroine go on about how she doesn’t think she’s pretty enough. I absolutely hate it. I hate the comparisons to other girls, and the cliche’ “get your paws off my man” attitude. That was a little annoying, but I’m hoping that all of these characters grow more with each book. Otherwise, I don’t think I can go on.

I love the action, which sped up the pace. Not a bad start to a series, so I definitely recommend this one. If you love your paranormal romance, you may want to give this series (or at least this book) a shot.

  2. I LURVE the fact that this book tells about four sisters because I too love it when family is involved in the story! So many books these days take place when the parents are just gone or dead or something else so it’s very refreshing to see that the sisters not only get along but they’re all DISTINCTIVE. That really matters as well! ❤

  3. I think sometimes, the first in series are a little slower than the rest. Just because of world building and setting up the characters and the different dynamics and all that. I’m glad you enjoyed Sealed with a Curse enough to want to continue the series, Lekeisha. Great review:)

  4. This series has been on my list for a long time. I usually need a book or two to get into a new UF series, so the fact that you aren’t blown away yet doesn’t worry me too much. I’ll have to try to get to it still. One of these days…

  6. When it comes to UF and Paranormal series I have noticed that a lot of the time book one is only okay and then the sequel and the rest blow you away. Which is why I approve of your idea to keep reading. I love the idea of this one being about a group of sisters though. I am gonna admit knowing the series was called the Weird Girls series did make me question things a bit before reading the review.

  8. Hmmm, I’ll be curious how you react to some of the upcoming twists and there are some shockers. The author goes outside the lines of the usual with these.

The sisters, though, gah. That is one of my favorite parts of this series. And any Mrs. Mancuso sightings are a hoot for sure.
