Charley Davidson isn’t your everyday, run-of-the-mill grim reaper. She’s more of a paranormal private eye/grim reaper extraordinaire. However, she gets sidetracked when the sexy, sultry son of Satan, Reyes Farrow, moves in next door. To further complicate matters, Reyes is her main suspect in an arson case. Charley has vowed to stay away from him until she can find out the truth…but then dead women start appearing in her apartment, one after another, each lost, confused, and terrified beyond reason. When it becomes apparent that her own sister, Gemma is the serial killer’s next target, Charley has no choice but to ask for Reyes’s help. Arsonist or not, he’s the one man alive who could protect Gemma no matter who or what came at her. But he wants something in return. Charley. All of her, body and soul. And to keep her sister safe, it is a price she is willing to pay.

Review

You really have to read these books to know why there are so many things that make or break them for me. Charley and her ADD really annoy me. Really, the girl is on the go and going from case to case every freaking minute. I’ve just decided to go with the flow, because there is no hope of ever changing her. And I’m all caught up, so she has kept me gritting my teeth and laughing (sometimes). Trying to keep Reyes out of her crazy head proves to be hard, no matter what she does.

This installment comes with lots of dead women popping up in Charley’s apartment. Yeah, that freaked me out and had me on the edge of my seat. I wanted to know who killed them and why. Of course, this wouldn’t be Charley if she wasn’t looking into other cases. There’s the arsonist, and a vengeful husband to deal with. It all came about so fast, but Charley learns more about what she can do and it saved her life. Cookie is taking a class for gun safety, but is dead set on dropping it. Garrett is all cloak and dagger again, but we finally get a little more of the mystery that is Charley Davidson. Charley thinks Gemma is in danger, but turns out, that isn’t the case. And, Uncle Ubie is there to connect the dots. And if Reyes had been any more of a gentleman here, I’d have swooned to death. The guy earned major points in my book. Who knew he could be so good with kids. I “awwwwed” by butt off.

I loved everything about this installment. This series is addictive, and I love all the quotes at the beginning of each chapter. I texted one to my sister when I was reading, I think book 8, and she told me to f**k off. LOL! She then called and asked me what the heck am I talking about. Gotta love Charley, she can make even the moodiest person smile. If you haven’t picked up these books, what are you waiting for? They are fun, dark, twisted, and so freaking hot. Seriously, Charley and Reyes can set a room on fire when they’re together. Highly recommend this series!

Few things in life can come between a grim reaper and her coffee, but the sexy, sultry son of Satan is one of them. Now that Reyes Farrow has asked for her hand, Charley Davidson feels it’s time to learn more about his past, but Reyes is reluctant to open up. When the official FBI file of his childhood abduction lands in her lap, Charley decides to go behind her mysterious beau’s back and conduct her own investigation. Because what could go wrong?

Unfortunately, another case has fallen into her lap—one with dangerous implications. Some very insistent men want Charley to hunt down a witness who is scheduled to testify against their boss, a major player in the local crime syndicate. If Charley doesn’t come up with an address in 48 hours, the people closest to her will start to disappear.

Add to that a desperate man in search of the soul he lost in a card game, a dogged mother determined to find the ghost of her son, and a beautiful, young Deaf boy haunted by his new ability to see the departed as clearly as he sees the living, and Charley has her hands full. The fact that Reyes has caught on to her latest venture only adds fuel to the inferno that he is. Good thing for Charley she’s used to multi-tasking and always up for a challenge…especially when that challenge comes in the form of Reyes Farrow.

Review

The ending of this installment had me screaming. I mean, you’d have thought I had won the lottery, with how loud I screamed. Mind = blown. So, before we get to the mind blowing end, there’s lots leading up to that point. Another hot man from down under comes into the picture. At first, I was wary of him, but I know differently now that I’ve caught up.

A man really sells his soul. Not to Satan himself, but he’s from the same plane, so it counts. Charley is asked to get it back for him. I think that was the funniest thing I’ve heard, but then it turned all too serious when we meet the man who has it. Some more of the prophecy has come to light, so that’s always a good thing. The more Charley knows, the better prepared she will be. Again, Charley takes on more cases, and this time she has to find a witness for some very dangerous people. Agent Carson is in the middle of it all, of course. Women are popping up in the diner, now that Reyes is the cook. One in particular, is Charley’s ex BFF Jessica. The girl is a menace. Little did Charley know that she’d be using her power to save the one she loves. She was thinking about the wrong friend, and it cost her. Angel’s mother comes asking questions. Charley is still pondering Reyes’ question from the last installment. And Reyes’ past comes back in the form of a cold case file from Agent Carson. Of course, Charley goes snooping around behind Reyes’ back. The girl can’t help herself, so he indulges her every time.

Now, that ending was a twist I didn’t see coming. Holy crap! I’m still trying to wrap my head around it, even after I know more. It’s just…I never thought something like that would happen. And after catching up on this series, I’m actually shocked by the outcome. Hopefully, the author will end this series on a good note, because I am not a fan of how books 8 & 9 ended. Again, very fun series that I can’t recommend enough. If you want some PNR with a kick, give this one a go.

  2. LOL – I love her ADD, mostly because I can be the same way. But I like it because even though it seems like she could be scatter-brained, she really is paying attention and picking everything up. Yeah, this series is just beyond entertaining. So glad you’re loving these.
