Stacking The Shelves is a weekly meme, hosted by Tynga’s Reviews, that spotlights the books we are adding to our shelves; whether they be virtual or physical.

I hate it when I forget that I have requested a book, and then a month or so later I get approved. It messes up my schedule, and I have a hard enough time trying to keep up as it is. Still, I can’t wait to read Children of Earth and Sky by Guy Gavriel Kay.

Physical Books

Thanks to St. Martin’s Press for The Beauty Queen of Jerusalem  by Sarit Yishai-Levi and Billy and Me by Giovanna Fletcher. I’ve started both and am enjoying one, while the other is not exactly engrossing.

Winter’s Bullet by William Osborne just showed up in my box from Scholastic with an #IReadYA paper attached. I haven’t done that hashtag since December, but apparently it’s still dishing out books. *shrugs* It’s an alternate WWII YA, which I love, but I’m just not sure if I’ll read it. Maybe…

Thanks to Simon & Schuster for the finished copy of Borderline by Mishell Baker. You can read my review here. And also for The Dragon Round via Goodreads.

My two year Blogoversary was on Thursday, but I didn’t have time to even get a post together for the occasion. Thanks to all of you who have stuck with my ramblings for these two years! Right now I’m probably at the hospital visiting my sister, or at home under the covers because I am tired and there is not enough time in the day to get things done. She’s been in the hospital since last Saturday night. She was having symptoms again like last year, and they did an MRI, only to find lots of lesions on her spine. She just had her treatment last Wednesday, so it’s no coincidence that it happened. I just pray that she doesn’t get set back to partial paralysis. She just learned to walk again back in December without her walker and she has been doing good. Now this. I just hate seeing her in pain and defeated.  I won’t have the kids again until Monday after work, but they are out for Spring Break next week, so I know that I’ll be scarce around the blogosphere. I will try to visit you guys on my breaks or if I have time before bed. Just because there is no post, doesn’t mean no giveaway.

  1. Sometimes, I’d rather not be approved straight away than be approved months later 😦 I try to make sure I request books that will be released in several months, so that I have time to enjoy reading before that. When I’m suddenly approved a week or so prior to release, my blog is usually all scheduled out.
Your new books look great, Lekeisha, and I hope you’ll enjoy them.
    Happy blogoversary 🙂

  2. I really hope your sister get’s well soon. She will be in my thoughts & prayers. Happy Blogoversary. You’re doing an incredible job. Take all the time you need and we’ll be here when you have more time to blog. There are so many books to choose from. So many I have been wanting. I think I would choose Iniquity by Amy A. Bartol. Thank you so much.

  3. WOOHOOO! Congrats on 2 years!! Dont even worry about not having time. I feel like a ton of bloggers are kind of strapped for time at the moment. We are officially established i feel like! Will you be at BEA? Id love to meet you!

  4. Firstly, the books. I know the feeling about being approved a lot later! That bothers me because then suddenly everything just blows up in your face. But it sounds like some good books here.

Also, I am so sorry to hear that these lesions popped back up again, especially as your sister seemed to be doing so well. Praying for you, and hope you had a good Easter despite being tired and running around doing everything all day. Hopefully the kids are well behaved during this holiday time as well. Wishing the best for you.

And happy blogiversary ❤ I love reading your posts and always hunger for more!

  5. Happy blogversary, Lekeisha! Two years is such a milestone. You should be so proud!

And I’m so, so sorry to hear about your sister. I really hope she’s gets well soon. Don’t worry about being absent from the blogosphere if you need to be – real life problems trumps online stuff, as much as we’d miss seeing you around.

  7. DUDE! I feel you, about the NetGalley approval thing. What I do is when I request a book (whether on EW, NG, or a print ARC from the pub), I schedule the review like I’m guaranteed to get the copy. I’d rather have the date blocked off for that book and not get the book, than forget I requested the book and BAM it shows up at my door or approved on EW/NG. 😀 I requested a finished copy of the Kay book, I can’t wait to read it! Anyway, I hope you enjoy all of your new books, Lekeisha!

Thanks for visiting my blog! Have a fantastic weekend. 🙂

  8. I’m so sorry about your sister :/ I hope and pray she has a good recovery or at least to start feeling better soon.
I totally know what you mean on publishers approving like a month or two later. It frustrates me so much!

  9. Yeah, it really does cause a lot of confusion when a book you request off netgalley takes so long to approve that you forget about it, and the when it does pop up you’re like, OH RIGHT! Bet it was an awesome feeling to see it was Children of Earth and Sky though! I am so excited for this book!

  10. I am so sorry to hear about your sister. It must be really tough to deal with a set back like this after making so much progress. I hope she is feeling better really soon.

I always like approvals but when they come after I have given up it does mess up my schedule. I hope you love all of these. Thanks for the giveaway! I am not sure what book I would pick but I am sure that I could find something on my TBR that I want.

  12. I’m really sorry to hear about your sister. I’m part-paralysed down one side of my body so I know just how tough it is and I really hope your sister doesn’t have this happen to her again.

I get a bit annoyed when it takes ages for a book request to be approved too – often I’ve forgotten I’ve requested it and it messes up my schedule. I sometimes wish we had the option to cancel a request if it doesn’t get approved within a certain time frame.

I hope you enjoy reading your new books this week. Take care.

  13. Yep, the book that I forgot always gets approved when I filled up on other review commitments. LOL. And I’ve decided that’s not my fault so it can wait it’s turn like the rest. 😉

Nice haul. Hope they’re good reading.

Man, tough on your sister. Hard to keep getting up after bad health knocks you down. Glad she has you to help with the kids. And no worries about putting family first. I’m sure it will tire you out, too, and leave not much extra time.

    Happy Easter, Lekeisha!

  14. I really hate when they take forever to approve too! It messes up with my schedule as well.
I’m sorry to hear about your sister. I can’t imagine how much stress you are going through right now. I hope she feels better and things calm down for you as well.
    Take care, Lekeisha! ❤
