Stacking the Shelves #77

Stacking the Shelves is a weekly meme, hosted by Tynga’s Reviews, that spotlights the books we are adding to our shelves; whether they be virtual or physical.

I’ve been in such a state this week. I’m tired, stressed, heartbroken, and a whole lot of other things. I haven’t been reading the books that I’ve planned, but rather reading other books that might cheer me up. Some have made me smile, but others have made the bad moods return. Someone help me load up on some summery reads, would you! Please, I’m begging you!!!!

In My Mailbox

Thank you to Sophia and Candace for the giveaway wins of Her Fierce Warrior and Beauty, Beast, and Belladonna. The rest are for review, and Tell Me Three Things is one I traded for over on Twitter.

Kindle Purchases, Gifts & Freebies

I have already read the first 11 chapters for The Orphan Queen from the ARC last year from Edelweiss, and am just now getting around to buying it. I just know that I’ll be starting over, since I can barely remember what happened so far. And Jazmen gifted me a copy of One With You, which I’ve already devoured. I started reading it Thursday night, but I got sleepy. Woke up at 3 a.m. and didn’t stop until I finished. I’m sure you’ll be reading my thoughts on it come Monday, because I just have to get it all out.

Library Books

I’ve already read Since You’ve Been Gone and The Moon and More, so look for those reviews next week. If I Tell popped up on my library suggestions, so I’ll see about that one before it expires. It looks like I may enjoy it.

I’ll take all the summery recommendations that you guys can give. If my library has them, I’ll more than likely check them out. My city is in mourning right now. This past Sunday evening, a well loved friend was killed in a four wheeler accident. He was only 33. I am still in shock, and so are his family, friends, and the rest of the community basically. I was cooking when I received the news, and damn near broke my toe when I dropped a frying pan. I just can’t even imagine the pain his wife and daughters are in right now, even though I’ve lost loved ones. There were almost 1200 people at his funeral, if not more. He was well loved and I know he’s in a better place. But… it hurts so bad. I hope you all have a great weekend and just hold your loved ones close. You never know when it’s your time.

  1. The Big Rewind is really enjoyable and I hope you like it. You mentioned several titles I will have to look into. “Beauty, Beast and Belladonna” seems like it might be a cute cozy mystery. Hope you enjoy them all.

  4. So sad about your friend, Lekeisha 😦 It’s always so hard to deal with the death of someone young and vibrant. I hope your whole community will band together to heal, and to remember him.
Your new books are all new to me, and I hope you’ll enjoy all of them.
Have a wonderful week ahead and happy reading.

  5. So sorry to hear of your friend. Hope next week is better for you.
Sylvia Day is one an author I’ve been curious about. She must be good for you to do a binge reading session with her book. Enjoy your latest haul.

  7. Girl every time I come to your blog it’s different. I thought I was bad at constantly changing things lol. I have Mad Fat Diary, but Jazmen read it and girl she did NOT like it. Her and I have similar tastes in books, so I’ll wait until you review it since we also seem to like the same books. Everyone has been talking about how good Tell Me Three Things is, so I’ll definitely be reading that one very soon! Great haul girlie 🙂

    • I’m a mood changer, Tika. Whenever my world is off balance, I tend to move stuff around. My boyfriend complains that I change things around the house too much, so I decided to do the blog. Plus, that pink was getting on my nerves. I have no idea why I even had it to begin with, because I am not a pink kind of girl. I’ll let you know my thoughts on My Mad Fat Diary soon!

  8. I am so sorry to hear about your friend, Lekeisha. I’m sending you and your community lots of positive thoughts and prayers. ❤ Take care of yourself.
I'm personally looking for summery book recommendations too. The only one I can think of right now is What You Always Wanted by Kristin Rae. I've also heard from a friend that Wanderlost by Jen Malone is a lovely summery read.
I hope you enjoy all your reads.

  9. Yeah, tough loss, for you, your community, and that family. Sounds like a lot of people will be there for the family so that’s good.

I can see why you would want some summery reads. Hmm, maybe some Jill Shalvis, Carolyn Brown. I know there are a few light summer YA, but you’ve probably read more of those than me. 😉

Glad to see the Paige Tyler got there for you.

    • Yes, everyone is being supportive and helping tremendously. His family and classmates are taking it real hard, but we will get through this. If you could just see his smile, you’d never forget him because he was the most laid back, sweetest guy.

  10. I am so sorry to hear about your friend, Lekeisha. It is really hard to lose someone and when it happens in an accident it is so hard to deal with.

Great haul this week! Tell Me Three Things is one I am interested in. I am such a mood reader and have a hard time planning out my reads like I know a lot of people do. Sometimes you just need to read what feels right to you. Enjoy all of your new books!

  11. Since You’ve Been Gone is one I know a lot of people find to be a really nice and enjoyable summer read, so I hope you can enjoy that one. The Big Unwind is one we have in common as well. I have been hearing brilliant things about The Orphan Queen and it’s finale book too, so I hope you enjoy that one, And when it comes to times like this, the best thing to do is simply to read the books you’ll enjoy.
