My Rating: 4 Stars
A typical day in the life of Charley Davidson involves cheating husbands, missing people, errant wives, philandering business owners, and oh yeah…demons, hell hounds, evil gods, and dead people. Lots and lots of dead people. As a part time Private Investigator and full-time Grim Reaper, Charley has to balance the good, the bad, the undead, and those who want her dead. In this eleventh installment, Charley is learning to make peace with the fact that she is a goddess with all kinds of power and that her own daughter has been born to save the world from total destruction. But the forces of hell are determined to see Charley banished forever to the darkest corners of another dimension. With the son of Satan himself as her husband and world-rocking lover, maybe Charley can find a way to have her happily ever after after all.

Review
I’m not sure there’s anything new to say about this series that I haven’t already said before. The last book was kind of hit or miss for me, but I enjoyed it. This latest installment, however, reminds me of why I love this series. And a heads up to you all….CLIFFHANGER.
At times I feel like there is waaaay too much going on in these books, but the author always manages to find a way to close up loose ends. Well, almost always. Finally, we get to know more about the child abductors. All I can say is, WTF?!!! I was not prepared for all that went down in this book. Between Charley and Reyes not communicating enough, to Uncle Bob’s predicament, to even Amber’s situation….I thought I would have a heart attack waiting for the other shoe to drop. Well, shoes. A whole freaking trunk full!
And do not, I repeat, DO NOT make me go into detail about Charley’s and Reyes’ explosive sex. Seriously, do not make me go there. It was hot, but it kept distracting me from the story. And the traveling to distant lands…. I felt like I was in Outlander. Especially that first scene when Charley does her “POOF” thing. Between all the angels hanging around, I didn’t know what to expect. Charley is both annoying AF and entertaining. Can someone please get her to stop naming things? LOL! This is me after one such naming…..
Overall, this was much better than the last book, IMO. I haven’t 5 starred a book in this series since book 9, and I’m hoping that the next one blows me away. Still, very worth the read; cliffhanger and all. Charley is still learning what she is capable of, so I hope that she can get over some things. I know Reyes gets exasperated sometimes. You know he does!
More Books in This Series….
Second Grave on the Left / Third Grave Dead Ahead
Fifth Grave Past the Light / Sixth Grave on the Edge
I think I’ll wait until the last book is out in the series. Charley can be so frustrating always running off recklessly or not communicating with Reyes! She’s funny, no doubt, but I want to strangle her sometimes for her stupid decisions. Glad to hear this one was better than the last. I haven’t read a book since I finished the 9th installment.

I remember recieving the 9th book for review I think and girl I was sitting here like, ” am I seriously supposed to start in the middle of a series? ” lol. Not to mention the covers just give me the weirdest feeling ever. (You know I judge books by their covers lol) but I really do want to start the series, especially since everybody and their mama really enjoys it.

Yeah, this is one series that needs to be read in order, or you will not know what’s going on with the characters. Charley has different cases each book, but there are things going on with her and the others that will need to be known to understand fully. I do hope that you give the series a go, Tika!

4 stars still isn’t bad for an 11th installment when other long-standing series have basically gone meh.

Yeah, it’s still holding my attention. Sadly, the next book will be the last and I’m thinking a spin-off needs to be in order because there is too much story left to even think of ending it with the next book. Another character will be the focus, though, if it all goes in that direction.

I started getting these to review, around book 9 so it’s kind of awkward for me. Like, where am I? I’m very afraid that when the books get up there in number, they’ll get repetitive. I may go back and try from the beginning and see how I feel.
LikeLike
They aren’t really repetitive, per say. More like there are huge reveals going on in each book but then the author just leaves us hanging on a cliff until the next book. Seriously, whoever suggests these books can be read alone and out of order, are liars. LOL! When the publicist emailed me about the 9th book, I declined because I am way too OCD to be starting at that point. I did wait until I had the first few books checked out from the library, to even start. They are fast, addictive reads, so it took me no time to catch up. I read the first 3 books in one weekend.

Charley would be tiring as a friend, and I think the whole name thing is hilarious 🙂

She most definitely would get on my nerves, Kim. But, oh how I’d love her to death. Like I said, she’s both annoying and entertaining.

Hahaha she does go a little overboard with naming everything. And yes, I’m sure Reyes gets plenty exasperated with her. lol.

Who names a grain of sand, Christy? Charley needs to be stopped. LOL!

I’m glad to see that this series is still going strong for you Lekeisha, I know a lot of my friends who are huge fans too. I’m just finding the number of books a little daunting! Fab review as always! 🙂

I know 11 books seem like a lot to catch up on, but they aren’t long reads. I read the first 3 books in one weekend, followed by the next 2 and so on. I maybe caught up to the 9th book last year within a month.

I skipped your review about I have to read it but I’m curious!

Cliffhangers make me sad 😦 I hope the next book comes out soon enough so there is no wait. And HOLY CRAP, I thought I read that wrong, but are there really more than 9 books in this series?? DEAR. GOODNESS.

Yes, we are heading into book 12 next. It doesn’t take long to catch up, though. Hell, I could read all 11 books within 5 days if I had time. LOL

No! Not another cliffie! However, because it is this series I will forgive Darynda. 😀 I love this series so much and even if I don’t like it as much as the others or even like it more, I know I’ll be wanting the next book. I do love the naming of things. Always gives me a giggle since I do that, just not as hard core as she does. LOL

I’m like, really Charley, give it a rest. And then she goes off and names some sand. LOL! She tried my patience with this book, but I like to think the amazing reveals made up for Charley’s behavior.

We are on 11 already!? Blimey I really must get one with this series ASAP! Loved the first 6 books so I’m quite behind now! Glad to see it’s still going strong for you. 🙂

Yes, this series puts out about 2 books per year, so they come fast. Which I’m happy about because….cliffhangers!

Nice that you are keeping up with the series. I can never commit to a series that has so many books

I love to binge read series, so that helps me to catch up quickly. I’m enjoying this one, even if the heroine is a little crazy.

I’m glad this was a lot better than the last book in the series you read, and that it could remind you about why you loved it all over again! I love when a book does that, because it can be worrying when a favourite series goes a bit down. It seems like this author knows how to pull off all the chaos that keeps happening!

I was worried that I would really fall out of love with this series, because I’ve had a “meh” reaction to at least 2 books already, and another one was almost heading in that direction. TBH, I will be glad when we get to the other important character in this prophesy. I’m seeing a spin-off soon because if the next book is the last of this series, then there is no way to avoid it.

I just bought several of these books today so I now own the first 10 in the series. I am hoping to get a chance to start reading them this year. I am so glad that you enjoyed this one although I am not happy to see the word cliffhanger in your review! Great review!

Carole, I have a feeling that you will catch up fast because they aren’t long. I hope you enjoy them!

I’m happy to hear you’re still enjoying this series. I’ve always wanted to try these books, but it feels overwhelming now that there are almost a dozen of them out.

The books are addicting, so it won’t take long to catch up. I started last year around this time, and by the first week in February, I had already read at least 6 or 7 of them.

Woah, the sex was distracting? I rarely come across that so I definitely did I double-take when I read that. And ugh, a cliffhanger! I am not a fan of those (who is!!!). But I’m glad you enjoyed this book overall! Great review, Lekeisha!
Have a fantastic day. =)

Haha! Yes, the sex was distracting here because I wanted to solve cases and harass angels. LOL! But, it was hot AF. Reyes knows his stuff, girl. 🙂

I loved this but yeah, so much happens and that ending was so freaking mean! I want the next book but am not sure if I’m ready for it emotionally yet either.

I’m in the same four-star territory with these. I still love them, but they aren’t wow-ing me lately. I know that some things take a bit of setting up and shuffling around so I’m trying to be patient. In the meantime, I’m having a great time as she solves cases, learns more about her real self and others, and yes spending sexy times with Reyes and good times with her family.
That cliffhanger, argh! I need to know what comes next. 🙂

Nice review Adrienne! It always amazes me how Darynda Jones can juggle so many storylines without getting us lost and confused. I have to admit though, I love Charley naming things. Um, not that I do the same thing to or anything. *cough, cough*

LOL! I asked my manchild what’d he think of me naming my breast. He laughed like hell. I was okay with Will and Danger, but then Charley just got out of hand with everything. Still, I’d love to chill with her one day. I’d probably strangle her before the day ends, but…..

I remember reading the first book and getting to that and laughing hysterically! My own manchild wanted to know why I was laughing and when I told him he completely cracked up as well. I definitely wouldn’t mind having lunch with Charley, especially if Reyes was there!😏
