My Thoughts

There are times when I think that YA romances are just not for me. There are also times when I fall head-over-heels in love with certain YA couples. This? This is not one of those times. Some parts of Seven Days of You, I really loved. However, Sophia reminded me so much of Anna from Anna and the French Kiss, that it was impossible to ignore the way she irked the heck out of me. I’ll say this, if you loved AatFK, then this book is for you. American girl in another country falling hard for one guy, while also crushing on another, and suddenly gets mad when her BFF hooks up with her crush? Come on, this is Anna written all over again, only it’s set in Tokyo.

It’s like Sophia wanted to have a backup plan if things didn’t pan out with Jamie. She spent all of her time running around Tokyo with Jamie. I just did not understand her devastation over Mika and David hooking up. Her maturity level is questionable because she acted like such a kid in certain situations. Mika, I liked. She may be a fast-axx (LOL), but she was the realest of the two girls. She was only looking out for Sophia by warning her away from David, in my opinion. And there are times when I even thought that they can’t really be the best of friends like Sophia claimed.

Seven Days of You is exactly what it sounds like; Sophia has seven days to spend with Jamie before she is off to another country. Along with the exploration of Sophia and Jamie, there are other characters that come in and stir up the plot. Like Mika and David. Although, why the author had to have Sophia in a little love triangle is beyond me. I think I would have really loved this if it had just been about Sophia and Jamie. No other characters to create tension. Okay, so her mom was needed. But all the other little things weren’t needed.

This isn’t that bad, but I just don’t think it’s for me. I’m sure those of you who loved Anna and the French Kiss will probably find another YA romance to fangirl over. Considering how much I didn’t like the aforementioned book, this review really shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone. To each their own. If any of you have read this, or planning to read it, please let me know what you think. I don’t think I’m too old to connect with this genre, because some of my favorite books are YA romances. Seven Days of You just didn’t do it for me.
