From Goodreads:  There’s something achingly familiar about Daniel Grigori.

Mysterious and aloof, he captures Luce Price’s attention from the moment she sees him on her first day at the Sword & Cross boarding school in sultry Savannah. He’s the one bright spot in a place where cell phones are forbidden, the other students are all screw-ups, and security cameras watch every move.

Even Daniel wants nothing to do with Luce- he goes out of his way to make that very clear. But she can’t let it go. Drawn to him like a moth to a flame, Luce has to find  out what Daniel is so desperate to keep secret….even if it kills her.

Angels. That’s enough for me to want to read it. After my cousin suggested that I read this, I went ahead and bought it. It sat on my shelf for a long time (if the dust was any indication). And while I did like it, it was too slow on parts, and too fast on others.

We start off with Luce, the MC, getting sent off to a reform school. I felt bad for her in a way because of all that she has been through- what with the psych meds and the whole death of  the boy she was with at a beach party. Moving on… So at Sword & Cross, we meet Daniel. This is where I wanted to scream at Luce for being so naive! Daniel treats her like crap, yet she is drawn to him. She has Cam, the green-eyed boy, pining for her, while the boy she wants, Daniel, is trying his best to stay away from her.

I mean, the whole school is like super creepy! Cemetery and the gym that used to be a church? If that’s not bad enough, the students themselves are walking around with tracking bracelets. It took too long to get to the point, and when it did, there were still things that I just needed to know. Luce is constantly seeing shadows and having dreams about Daniel. You kind of figure out little things here and there, but some things will still have you guessing.

I liked it, but i’m not sure that i’ll buy the next book just yet. This series is not high on my to-read list. But it is a good paranormal to read, especially if you are into angels. I mean, Daniel is no Raffe, but the story is okay.

Stacking The Shelves #4

stacking the shelves

Stacking The Shelves is a weekly meme hosted by Tynga’s Reviews, that showcases the books we’ve gotten. Whether they are checked out from the library, won, bought or ARCs, share what you have. Sharing is caring 🙂 I got a few this week for review, so I only purchased one. I know, shocking right? After I knock these ARCs out of the way, then i’m gonna go on a shopping spree on Amazon and get more of my TBR books. Most will be physical books, as i’m trying to fill my new bookshelf that my fiancee’ bought. I’ve turned one of my guest rooms into a mini library (as my 4 yr. old niece says). Okay, on to the goodies…..

I have a slew of freebies from Amazon that if I post them, i’ll be here all night trying to edit this. I really need to catch up on my TBR before I go crazy adding more books. It’s already going to be years before I even finish reading them all. It currently sits at 750+, and I haven’t even added the books from the past few weeks to the list yet. *sigh* Anyhoo, what books did you get this week? Sharing is caring people!!!

Random: Books That Should Be More Recognized

Over the years, I’ve read many books by little known authors. I’ve read some great ones and some not so great ones, and they’ve stuck with me one way or the other. A few of the ones that I love have basically taken up residence on my bookshelves or my kindles. I want to talk about The Watchers Series by Lynnie Purcell

Book 1, The Watchers 17563111 is truly awesome, and once you start reading it, you won’t put it down. I read it within hours nonstop and immediately bought the next book The Seekers 12604863, which only drives you deeper into the world of half-angels and the powers they possess. Clare, the MC, along with Daniel and Alex, find themselves in seek of answers. Book 3, The Saints 17447804 is fast paced and action packed, with more revelations revealed. I honestly jumped right into the final book The Last 14744424, with eagerness. If you love paranormal romance, angels, half angels, action, suspense, and all the in between then you will definitely love this series. There is a spin-off to this series, The Guardians, which I haven’t started yet. I’m hoping to start the first book, The Hunter 17857980, soon.
