Twenty-eight-year-old Maggie Sparkes arrives in New York City to pack up what’s left of her best friend’s belongings after a suicide that has left everyone stunned. The police have deemed the evidence conclusive: Celine got into bed, downed a bottle of Xanax and a handle of Maker’s Mark, and never woke up. But when Maggie discovers secrets in the childhood lock box hidden in Celine’s apartment, she begins asking questions. Questions about the man Celine fell in love with. The man she never told anyone about, not even Maggie. The man who Celine herself claimed would be her ruin.

On the hunt for answers that will force the police to reopen the case, Maggie uncovers more than she bargained for about Celine’s private life—and inadvertently puts herself on the radar of a killer who will stop at nothing to keep his crimes undiscovered.

REVIEW

He Will Be My Ruin is a whodunit that will have you on the edge of your seat. Just when you think you have it all figured out, the story takes another turn. As the dates unfolded, I wasn’t sure who to trust or what to believe.

Maggie returns to the States from doing her philanthropic work, to bury her best friend. After the funeral in California, she finds herself in New York getting Celine’s things in order and clearing out her apartment. While there, she discovers over ten grand in cash and a photo of a naked man. After reading what Celine wrote on the back, Maggie gets suspicious. Why would her best friend kill herself? She had too much going for herself, and she would never put her sick mother through that. Maggie finds out just how much Celine has kept from her. Turns out, Celine was not the person Maggie thought her to be. Everyone has secrets.

Without giving up the goods, I can say that this story is all sorts of twisted. Artifacts worth millions, prostitution, murder, stalking, voyeurism, hacking….and that’s not even the half of it. A best friend who will stop at nothing to get justice, even if it makes her a target, Maggie goes all in. She and her PI uncover things about Celine, but who is Maggie to judge when she, herself, falls victim to the charm and lies? She had this grand plan to set up a meeting with the guy from the photo, Jace. He’s rich and powerful, but so is Maggie. Then, there’s Grady, the hot English super of Celine’s building. There are so many twists to this story. Even the little old nosy neighbor has a story to tell. She is as sharp as a tack, to be her age.

I highly recommend this book, and I can certainly say that this won’t be my last read from this author.

THAT made no sense. hehe This seems super twisted when you’re not sure who to trust and all that. I love the fact that it’s so suspenseful so it can keep you on your toes! ❤

    • Girl, when I say I thought of Lifetime when I was reading this!! Or maybe HBO or something because there’s sex in it and I’d hate for Lifetime to take that out because, as messed up as it all was, it was hot as hell.

It sounds like an epic book and I am so glad you were able to love it. I am especially happy to know it isn’t predictable in the slightest and that new things continuously happen so you really know nothing until the end!
